These unique Yakisugi cedar wood pieces are hand torched, scraped and stained in these wild and crazy colors to make just about anything. I became obsessed with the Yakisugi process when I saw it on social media and have since been perfecting my own process to produce these amazing colors. This process is an ancient Japanese style of charring Japanese cedar boards and using them for siding on houses that have stood for centuries in Japan. This process makes the wood resistant to rot, pests and weather, so the boards work great for outdoor use even without a finish on them. I use a light finish just to bring out the colors and ensure their vibrancy. The process has also been referred to as "shou sugi ban", which loosely translates to "charred cedar".
I have made tall standup planter boxes, clocks, small flower or herb garden boxes, birdhouses, and so much more. The ideas really are limitless and there is so much to be made! If you have an idea, I'm willing to help you get what you need or you can even try it yourself!
